Aesthetic, Luxury, Innovation: From “Vice-Versa” to “Made in Filo 64”

Once again this year, I had the pleasure of curating the concept and translating the "Made in Filo" capsule collection into textiles for Filo 64. Now that the spotlight on the fair has dimmed, I would like to share the journey that transformed an abstract idea into a series of living materials—fabrics capable of narrating the dynamic tension between tradition and innovation.

From Idea to Concept: Vice-Versa

The project stemmed from an urgent desire to explore continuous inversion: a delicate balancing act bridging classic refinement with the frontiers of contemporary textile technology.

The Vice-Versa concept was articulated across three imaginary scenarios—ideal environments designed to bring distinct stylistic expressions to light:

• Aesthetic Lab: We envisioned pastel nuances and shaded textures, focusing on yarns crafted with intricate high-twist constructions.

• Luxury Lab: Centered on neutral and natural tones, where delicate lace and macramé elevated traditional craftsmanship.

• Innovation Lab: Paved the way for unexpected fibers and experimental structures, exploring advanced technical crossovers.

From Vision to Technical Engineering

Translating creativity into a tactile reality required an extensive yarn research process, drawing from over one hundred yarn variations selected across Filo exhibitors' collections. Each sample was rigorously evaluated for color payoff, hand-feel, and performance.

This resulted in four hundred prototypes, each carrying a narrative of contrast: matte versus shine, fluid softness versus high-twist crepe, full-bodied weaves juxtaposed with ultra-fine filaments. Close collaboration with Filo’s artistic direction guided a stringent selection process, refining the portfolio down to thirty-six final fabrics that embody the three cores of Vice-Versa.

When Creativity Meets Production

Fine-tuning the production phase was the most intricate stage of all, and my heartfelt thanks go out to all the partner spinning mills, weaving sheds, finishing plants, dye houses, and embroidery ateliers.

• In the Aesthetic Lab, dobby looms brought subtle, airy weaves to life, showcasing the most complex novelty yarns.

• In the Luxury Lab, lace embroidery and macramé highlighted warm neutrals and detail-rich surfaces, evoking a understated, quiet luxury.

• To the Innovation Lab, we entrusted pigment printing on pure silks, complex Jacquard structures, and bold blends where linen interweaves with stainless steel, kelp/algae fibers, cupro, and bio-fermented protein fibers.

  
  

Every single phase demanded the utmost technical rigor to ensure consistent quality and process sustainability.

The Birth of “Made in Filo”

Transforming raw concepts into living matter was the most fascinating challenge. "Made in Filo" is the result of a continuous dialogue between imagination and artisanal expertise: thirty-six fabrics exhibited at Filo 64, each telling a story of responsible elegance.

Here, the yarn becomes far more than a structural component—it serves as a symbol of ethical luxury, far removed from ostentation, celebrating material quality, manufacturing precision, and a commitment to a reduced environmental footprint.

Beyond the Trade Show: Perspectives and Community

The Vice-Versa project and the "Made in Filo" capsule collection speak directly to a community of professionals, designers, and brands seeking a conscious synergy between aesthetics and technology.
